The Prayer Leaders Course is designed to enable musical women who love prayer to take on various roles in the synagogue, learn cantillation, Torah scroll handling, synagogue procedures, and deepen their personal connection to prayer.
Among the many achievements of religious feminism, there is a growing involvement of religious women in synagogue spaces. Women are requesting not to remain passively behind the partition, but to be actively engaged: ascending to the Torah, leading women’s services, reading the Megillah on holidays, and being present in what constitutes the heart of the community they are part of alongside their families.
The course was developed and led by cantor, musician, and composer Hagit Kfir, one of the veterans and pioneers of the field of Jewish religious music. Hagit led 8 sessions, each lasting 3 hours, during which women gathered to practice cantillation, study Torah reading procedures, and learn the laws of prayer.
The course also featured guest speakers Dr. Renena Ravitzki Filtzer, Rabbi Hamutal Shoval, and poet Yahela Lehman.
